Bayer Diegem

Various sustainability technologies were applied in the construction of the new office building of Bayer in Diegem. Van Den Briele nv, a sister company of Democo, provided among others a BTES (borehole thermal energy storage) installation. Depending on the season, this system extracts or delivers heat tot the soil. With the help of concrete core activation, the building mass is thermically activated using radiant energy.

In view of the low system temperatures, this is a highly energy-saving installation. Warm water for the sanitary facilities is pre-warmed by a heat pump. In the primary circuit, the mixture of water and glycol is returned to the same pipe when the installation demands cooling. After all, the heat pump cools the medium and this is for the benefit of the "free-chilling" principle.
