Be-MINE project wins prestigious real estate prize in Cannes

The MIPIM Awards were presented in Cannes at the international real estate show of the same name. The MIPIM Awards are the Oscars of the real estate world.

Democo and DMI Vastgoed, together with their partners, snatched up an award for be-MINE.

Out of 215 submissions, the be-MINE project was selected in the Best Urban Regeneration Project category. This category honours completed projects, or projects in progress, which contribute significantly to the development of a city and which lead to social and economic progress.

When selecting the projects, the jury considers their aesthetic effect on the surroundings, sustainability, the repurposing of heritage sites, accessibility and the integration of the project into the local community.

Largest industrial heritage site

Be-MINE is the renovation project of the old mine terrains in Beringen. With its 100,000m² of cultural heritage buildings, this mine site is the largest industrial heritage site in Flanders.

DMI Vastgoed, LRM and Vanroey Vastgoed gave the site a new tourism-recreation repurposing. Residential space on the terrain is interwoven with recreational space to create a balanced whole.

Up until now, be-MINE has already created 300 jobs of their total goal of 500.

At MIPIM, be-MINE outshone the Battersea Power Station (Londen), MediaCityUK (Salford) and Nowadays (Amsterdam) projects.
