Democo is going to build - on a site of the Grondregie located on the corner of the Kapucijnen- and the Hoogstraat in Brussels - a passive building complex that consists of 38 studios (of which 35 passive) for older people, a commercial space on the ground floor with private entrance and basement and a common area for the residents.
Except for a few studios, all properties are wheelchair accesible. The project uses - following the example of the facades nearby- lots of color and fragmentation. The additional elements such as railings, vertical surfaces and sun screens make the whole playful and lively. The gardens, green roof and green wall bring an extra piece of nature back into the city center.
Democo was involved from the start in this DBF story (Design, Build, Finance) that is currently in the final phase of study. Surrounded by a multidisciplinary team (Styfhals Architecten and Grontmij) the Kapucijnen project will be further developed and realized.
